Women Who Refused to Give Up

Writer: Alice RankerAlice Ranker

Life has a way of throwing challenges at us, often when we least expect them. But time and time again, I have seen women show incredible resilience, turning obstacles into opportunities. Whether it’s in careers, personal lives, or dreams that once felt out of reach, the path to success is rarely a straight line.

Let's look at some of the women whose name we are familiar with such as Oprah Winfrey, for one. She was fired from her first TV job and told she wasn’t fit for television. Now? She’s one of the most influential media moguls in the world. I love Oprah! On a side note, if you are a book lover as I am, check out her bookclub podcast. Or Sara Blakely, who faced countless rejections before turning $5,000 in savings into Spanx, a billion-dollar brand that revolutionized shapewear. I appreciate this so much. Back in the day when I dressed up a lot we all wore shapewear to avoid the ungodly 'pantylines'. Spanx made a shaper that didn't cut off my circulation.

And then there’s Misty Copeland, who was told she didn’t have the right body type to be a ballerina. Instead of giving up, she trained harder, proved her critics wrong, and became the first Black principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. Her story is a powerful reminder that limitations are often just someone else’s opinion—not your reality. Look at her beauty and strength! Simply stunning. She also has a children's book, Bunheads. I love a good childrens' book!

These women didn’t let setbacks define them—they let them refine them.

But resilience isn’t just for famous names. It’s for every woman who has ever felt like giving up but chose to take one more step forward. It’s for the single mom balancing work and family, the entrepreneur facing rejection after rejection, the student doubting her abilities, or the woman starting over after a personal setback. I have a friend in each of these catagories. I am so proud of them! Heather, a single mom who works hard both at her job and her mental health to break through some generational stuff so her daughter will have a brighter future. My friend KJ who can take a simple idea and turn it into a business that will make a dollar. I could go on about the amazingly creative, insightful, and talented women in life who have overcome many obstacles to achieve their goals and intentions.

Think about a time in your own life when something didn’t go as planned. Did you let it stop you, or did you push forward?

The truth is, setbacks aren’t roadblocks; they’re detours leading us to something even greater. Sometimes, they force us to rethink our approach, find a new strength within ourselves, or discover an opportunity we never considered.

So, what’s your next step? What challenge are you facing right now that could actually be setting you up for something amazing? Take a moment to reflect—maybe even write it down. How will you turn your next setback into success?

You are stronger than you think. And your breakthrough might be just one step away. And you don't have to do it alone. I know there are other women who want to cheer you on!! Who are they in your life? If you can't think of any, please reach out to me. I will cheer you on!!

Have the best week!

Much love,
